If someone has a crush on you, do you want them to tell you directly that they are interested in you or do you want them to approach you slowly and secretly?

I sometimes donโ€™t know how to react when someone blatantly has a crush on me; I might be shocked. So I prefer a slower approach, or communicating through DMs.
