What is more important for how an ongoing story and characters go, creative vision or audience reception?
A mixture of both, honestly.
While sticking to what you originally planned for your story is good and all - especially if you have certain aspects thoroughly planned out with an intention in mind, there are times when criticism from the audience is needed so a personal review, and potential revisions, can be done for better enjoyment and/or proper coherence. Though, don't let your audience "take over" the story.
