I like Learn Python the Hard Way and Learn Ruby the Hard Way, if those count!
unfortunately i read very few books about software, apart from the occasional university textbook
I don't remember the last time I read a book, tbh, software-related or otherwise. I basically almost never read them. So let's go with The Art of The Metaobject Protocol since it's the one I've probably used the most in the past.
