What was your original inspiration for WHN? Was there a particular scene, arc, or theme you wanted to explore? Or did you just have a general idea of the overarching plot and start writing at the beginning?
i guess whn is about, like, justice and punishment and trauma... the vanishing border btwn public and private life in an increasingly logged-on world... and like, what if some stuff happened to a guy
Do you have any voice claims for any of the whn characters?
no, that's not really a thing i do
did you know that if you google "what happens next will shock you fan wiki" the top result is the dhar mann wiki?
no, because i've never googled that before. don't really feel like doing it right now
So Vikki said Kyler didn't have a big audience, but I'm wondering how well known is he on the internet in general? Has anything about him ever gone viral? Where is he on a scale of "some random dude" to "this guy's face is everywhere" ?
closer to "some random dude" but his small audience is dedicated
I do not like Vikki but I feel like I would be cancelled if I expressed this publicly
It is a bummer she got done so dirty by those rat bastard YouTubers though
i distrust all youtubers by default. except for lily alexandre i suppose
how do you turn loose concepts into a more fleshed out story? really interested in your process—i always find making decisions about a story is hardest when i'm just coming up with it because i'm not sure what i want it to be yet.
i just start typing up notes. plot beats, ideas for scenes and dialogue, character names and descriptions. it's better to have something on the page than nothing, and if i change my mind about something that's fine too.
Do Milo's parents believe in the existence of trans people or do they just think their special little guy is going through a phase that they've resigned themselves to
the latter. although i wouldn't say they think of him as their "special little guy".
is milo weird / uncomfortable about polyamory because of griffin's parents?
that would be a funny problem for him to have
how tall are milo gage and audrey
iirc what i've said in the past is that milo is 5'4, gage is 5'0, and audrey is 5'2. but in my art the characters' heights are not super consistent
do any of the characters listen to bladee or perhaps yung lean
gage and [character who has not appeared yet].
has whn changed the way you engage with art? if so, how?
i understand the labor involved in making comics a little better, and sometimes i seek out things to watch/read in hopes of getting ideas/putting myself in the right headspace for whn. but mostly it feels the same as it always has
who in the cast would be a black dresses fan
vikki
Does milo have opinions on homestuck
he's mad about it. not sure about the specifics but he's definitely mad about it
ik some of your characters (ie, Milo, Vikki) existed before WHN for a while, but I was curious if there were any characters who were made relatively impromptu and what it's like writing older more fleshed out characters in conjunction with characters who you have less experience writing?
xandra was made up on the spot for dog names so vikki would have someone to talk to. sometimes old characters have too much baggage, and sometimes new characters feel a little ill-defined, but i think it usually works out ok in the end.
Where do you usually start with making a character, like do you typically start with personality, visual design, life/story events etc. That sort of stuff?
it depends on the character. usually either personality or life/story events come first, though.
