the unfortunate reality of sites shutting down or having an exodus is that there is never a consensus on what to replace it with.
and that's probably for the best, since if every site was expected to migrate users to a new platform when it died it would probably accelerate the monopolization of everything
my recommendation: either sign up for both, or pick the one whose UI you like the most.
